Are you disappointed with the results of your SEO strategy and the traffic you've acquired from Google? There are certainly many reasons why your site's performance isn't meeting your expectations. Fortunately, by identifying the errors and causes of this failure, you can bounce back, correct poor choices, and improve your SEO strategy. Discover in this article the most common mistakes and, most importantly, how to fix them!

Setting unattainable goals

Despite what some might like to believe,  doesn't happen by magic. If you rely solely on this acquisition channel to desperately meet business objectives, achieving exceptional results will be difficult. Optimizing your website for search engines is a crucial pillar of a web marketing strategy, but it shouldn't be the only factor responsible. A website can generate up to 90% organic traffic, but this isn't a comfortable situation because it makes your business dependent on Google's goodwill.

Solution: A thorough analysis, including an audit of the existing website, the industry, and the competition, allows for a more or less detailed assessment of potential performance. Choose a reputable SEO agency or consultant with ethical and recognized practices.

Run a sprint, not a marathon

While it's a dream for all SEO specialists and website administrators, there's no "On/Off" switch, no performance-enhancing drug, and no magic potion to boost a website's organic search ranking. Spending all your energy and resources in a few weeks and then stopping your efforts will achieve nothing in organic SEO.

SEO is a long-term endeavor requiring consistent effort. While it's  beneficial to focus some of the work at the beginning of a project to conduct an audit, develop a tailored SEO strategy, and address any blocking factors, this doesn't mean you can stop working. Continuously optimizing your website, ensuring high-quality content, and monitoring performance is a true marathon.

Solution: Think of SEO like the famous rocket that all graphic designers love: full throttle at takeoff, then using the momentum of the propulsion allows you to reduce fuel consumption and adjust your trajectory as needed. Make sure you have a flight plan (or a reverse timeline for your SEO strategy) before you take off! To gain visibility very quickly, is the preferred option.

Choosing your neighbor's nephew by marriage rather than a professional

Still relatively new to the web and lead generation landscape, SEO is likely undervalued by some business leaders. To save money, they often prefer to rely on a self-proclaimed SEO consultant or anyone claiming to be an SEO expert after reading three blog articles and watching a dozen YouTube videos.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a delicate balance between science, due to the extensive technical knowledge it requires, and art, because of the significant element of inspiration and intuition it demands! A vague understanding of SEO basics is not enough to develop a customized and effective strategy. SEO is a full-time job that requires in-depth knowledge of trends, strategies, tools, and the evolving algorithms of the search engine crawlers that index your pages.

Solution: Your website isn't an experimental project for a young SEO novice to practice on. Trust an SEO expert or agency to optimize your site. A service provider should leverage their expertise and experience to help you achieve top rankings.

Not bothering to create quality content

Logically, the number one ranking factor is also the main reason for the failure of many SEO projects: content. Content is king. If your site doesn't contain high-quality content that is useful to your audience (internet users) and optimized to meet search engine requirements (via crawlers), it's unlikely to rank well.

"If customers are attracted by the prices and the menu, but only stay or return because of the quality of the food." This restaurant adage applies perfectly to SEO: even if the promise of the content is enticing and generates traffic, only the quality of the content builds loyalty and converts visitors into customers. Your website will only be visited by internet users if they find content worth reading and consuming.

Duplicate, plagiarized, unsuitable content for your target audience, riddled with errors and approximations, or poorly formatted content are the causes of failure for a large number of sites struggling with their SEO.

"Don't wait for inspiration. It comes while you're working." Henri Matisse

Solution: Buying or producing low-quality content is counterproductive. Precisely target your audience and analyze the search queries they use. Write relevant and engaging content and optimize it so your web pages reach top rankings! An SEO professional should be able to create an editorial strategy and ensure the production of high-value content to enrich your website's existing offerings.
