The generator INPUT accepts any 240v pure sine wave source to power and charge your batteries.

Look at the 12 minute mark here - https://youtu.be/IBfWOmCjdYQ?t=5

In theory any device (inverter / generator / etc.) that can supply pure power into the Gridboss can be coupled through the Generator port.... and possibly through the Hybrid Smart Ports as well.

It may not be the INTENDED use but it will work.

It wasn't that much added cost if you use Polaris connectors. 1-200amp main disconnect to a 200amp 3-way Polaris then into each inverter. If code requires you to put in the manual transfer switch then you will only need one between the main disconnect and Polaris connector.

So the GridBoss at this time is designed for only Hybrid inverters. The inverter uses the AC IN port to connect to the GridBoss because that port on a hybrid inverter allows bi-directional power flow. It can push power up to the GridBoss to supply power to the loads (also melding with AC Coupling or grid power) or it can pull power from the grid to charge batteries.

Off-Grid inverters only allow power flow in one direction on the AC In port (so you don't accidentally backfeed to the grid). For an off-grid inverter, you would have to run two sets of cables, one for feeding power to your loads and one for taking power from the grid (when in bypass mode).

I'm not sure if they're planning on anything for off-grid inverters or not.

@EG4 - why are these not compatible with the new Gridboss? Having these compatible would solve SO many problems and extra systems inbetween my service main and the inverter.

I was hoping to be able to go with a 12000XP + Gridboss since I'm NOT selling any spare wattage back to the grid in a grid share agreement.

The GRIDBOSS solves my issues entirely but it won't work with the 12000XP.

Service Main --> 200 AMP Disconnect --> Grid Boss

From here I can send power to a 200 AMP Panel and or a 100 AMP sub panel.

What was the justification for not making the XP line not work with this system?

Because I don't sell electricity back I could (in theory) buy 2x 12000XP's for the cost of 1x 18KPV and have twice the output and input.

The only downside is that the 12000XP only has a 100Amp grid bypass which isn't enough for extreme peak usage for me. Only the 18KPV has a 200 amp bypass on the inverter, but I don't need to the hybrid grid sell back option.

The GRID boss would allow for 200AMP service to bypass the inverter and go directly to grid (which I need in my loads exceed 100 amp). My max sustained is around 85 but the 15% rule says I should plan for more just in case.

How can I get 200 amps of GRID tied power to my panel through an inverter without buying an 18KPV, or a Flexboss21 + Gridboss?

Thanks
