it is recommended to cycle battery when on an on-grid net metering system which uses battery as back up to prevent long periods of time at 99%-100% SOC? if yes, how often should be cycled?

So what does this mean for those of us who have a battery backup system, no PV, and are keeping our systems maintained on backup standby at 100% SOC? With the constant daily cycling of battery state to replenish the 1800 Wh of inverter idle consumption (for me, this means frequent short charge cycles between 99 ~ 100% SOC), how concerned should we be about battery long term health and longevity? Is this daily recharge to hold at 100% SOC considered "storage"? Should the battery be periodically discharged to 20% and recharged for maintenance, and if so, how often? Monthly? Bi-annually?

With the solar I have available in the summer i'll probably only be able to produce 20% capacity of my batteries daily and way less in the winter. That being said I'll be cycling between 80-100% much of the time. Is this an issue?

@ron I am in the same boat.  During the summer I will cycle from 80% to 100% much of the time and then during mid-summer it will be more like 90% to 100% and I will get that "top-off" in the first couple hours during the day.

Once a month should I turn off solar and let the system come down to 20%?

Sometimes the easiest solution is the best solution.
Sometimes not.

@joel-brodeur I'm thinking that is the best solution. Drop the grid/pv and drain to 20% once a month, but would like to have confirmed by EG4.

We have quite a few power outages, so that will help.. 🙂
