we're crossing posts again. You beat me this time...
so I tested voltage. Right now battery is 38 +/- volts. I plugged in the charger which shows a SOLID GREEN LIGHT and tested voltage with it hooked up and is 43.8 volts.
starting to wonder if the charger is bad......... (which was purchased at the same time as the battery).
I'm leaving it plugged in overnight (which should be 10 hours++). Stay tuned for tomorrow's update.
I don't think the battery charger is bad. 43.8 V is exactly what the charging voltage should be. But, you should only be able to measure that voltage when the battery is full or disconnected. While the battery is taking charge current it will pull the measured voltage down a lot. I'm beginning to suspect you battery is in a BMS disconnect mode and unable to accept a charge. But, leave it all overnight and then measure the battery voltage in the morning. Disconnect the charger, let the battery sit idle for at least 10 minutes - one hour is better. And then measure the rested voltage of the battery. It should be around 40.5 V if it's full.
If the battery didn't take a charge overnight, getting the Bluetooth app connected will be important to see what the battery status is reporting.
UPDATE: Checked battery voltage this AM, 37.6 volts. This battery is in my living room at 72 degrees F and has lost 0.8 volts in two days. Can't get the bluetooth app to work now. It was working two days ago. APP shows 0 volts.
How does it lose almost a volt of power when it is sitting idle.
Something has to be wrong here. Does anyone have customer service number to EG 4 ??
I need to figure this out asap as we really can't even use the boat for fishing if i don't have a working trolling motor. Wish i would have kept the 12v acid batteries....
@95g-atl You can try filling out the form at - EG4 Technical Support - EG4 Electronics
They should reach out to you.
Sometimes the easiest solution is the best solution.
Sometimes not.
Did the battery never take a charge at all? What was the resting battery voltage after leaving it on the charger overnight? What was the battery status reported by the Bluetooth app while that was working?
It sounds like this battery is in a disconnect / sleep state. Most over-discharged LFP batteries have a procedure needed to wake them up to receive a charge, and most LI-specific chargers have the capability to "wake up" a very low LFP battery. But, I can't find details about that in either the EG4 battery manual or the EG4 charger manual. I agree with Joel you need EG4 support to figure this out. Unfortunately, EG4 Support has been absent from this forum for a couple of weeks now.
@Jared - do you have information about how to wake up a discharged 36V battery, and should the EG4 charger do that automatically?
thank you so much.
I reached out to their customer service page and filled out their inquiry. Let’s hope they get me some help.
I did get an auto response email back and they included a phone number, will call them today and see
stay tuned
I’ll call them soon and see if I can get in touch with someone
UPDATE: I called EG4 and spoke with Jacob. He indicated two things:
1. I must call the supplier who we purchased from and request to get a replacement. 😫 😫 😫
2. EG4 has had numerous issues with this model/type of battery. Likley a known defect. 🙁
Let's see if I can get ahold of the supplier. STAY TUNED.
ANOTHER UPDATE:
Spoke with (Javier) the supplier who we purchased from (Signature Solar).
He had me run some tests. Ironically now the Bluetooth App shows 0%. It worked on Saturday. I remember seeing (2) of the 12 cells were at 2.5 volts or so Saturday (while supposedly fully charged) and the rest in the 3.xx range (2.5 v mean dead cells??).
While running tests and with my battery tester, the voltage ranged from 43.xx while charging. 38.xx while i unplugged the charger. And 0.750 in between. Something is definitely wrong. Then it went from 0.750 volts to fully charged of 39.xx volts in about six or seven minutes while on the phone w/Javier. WHAT THE HECK????!!!!
Also noted. While just holding the battery tester to the allegedly fully charged battery, I watched it losing volts by the second.
Finally javier said he will send my warranty request to another dept within Signature solar and they should call me soon to get the replacement.
STAY TUNED MY FRIENDS.
UPDATE:
I hope I am not getting the run around here on a $1200 battery that worked for a mere few minutes.
I was authorized for a full replacement last week. Signature solar provided me with a FedEx tracking number. I've been checking FedEx and the tracking number doesn't exist. Almost a week later, I email back to see what the issue is. A day later someone calls me and tells me they are out of stock on the battery. What? How can it be out of stock when y'all issued me a tracking number? Something seems fishy.
what are my options. Well, I can get store credit. ----does me no good if y'all don't have batteries and can't give me a timeline. Next option is a refund. OKAY, I'll take it and buy another battery somewhere else. But before I can do that, these clowns want their old battery back. Wait, there's more. I need to find a pallet. I need to find a box. I need to secure the battery in the box to the pallet. And tie it down. Like normal homeowners have this crap?? Well, i do...! As a contractor I am very well prepared and built a custom box onto the pallet.
I would CAUTION anyone looking to purchase a new EG4 battery. This has been a NIGHTMARE. Jump through hoops and being basically lied to. Was expecting a new replacement battery this week and nope. Looks like I have to wait for a check.
I'll provide updates as I get them.
@95g-atl Good morning! I'm so sorry you've been having trouble with your purchase! It sounds like maybe there is some confusion going on and I'm here to help! If you'd like to reach out to me at [email protected] with your name and email address associated with your account, I'd be happy to look into this for you and find out what's going on.
@signaturesolarjess Thank you for your assistance. Chris Money was suppose to be my contact person. I emailed him last friday, 1/17/2025 letting him know the FedEx driver picked up the battery. I also asked him when he would be sending a refund check as promised. No response. Emailed him again beginning of this week. No response.
I feel that all y'all wanted was your battery returned and basically going to shaft me with nothing in return. Basically $1200 down the drain and have NOTHING to show for it since I shipped back the defective battery.
If that's the way it is, I will definitely be taking the next step(s).....and won't be nice about it.
i am sending you an email shortly and really hope you will call me immediately and resolve.
I am not happy.
EVERYONE ELSE, BUYER BEWARE When dealing with EG4 products and signatureSolar. I am not impressed with the quality or way they have been handling this issue.
@signaturesolarjess Jess, i emailed you per your request. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, call me Thursday 1/23 in the morning. My number is in my email.
This has really gone on long enough. I kept getting the run around for 2 weeks. The moment the battery was in FedEx's possession (my defective battery was returned), the communication has stopped. Chris is not responding and he was suppose to be my contact person. We had a long conversation and he apologized to me last week for what I have been through. I'm beginning to think it was all BS and y'all just wanted your battery returned and will not honor the refund as promised. This is almost $1200.......!!!!
Signature Solar and EG4 needs to do better......! Very very disappointed.
@95g-atl Thank you so much for reaching out! We'll get you taken care of!
