if this needs to be in support, i apologize. please advise

First, my stet up; grid boss with a flexboss and a full rack of batteries with PV. I have a 40kv guardian elite that is separate and not wired in to the system currently as it far exceeds the 125 amp limit.

1. the limit on generator port is 125 amps, but the manual states to oversize generator by something like 1.5x i believe. so, what is the max output generator i can use? i saw in a previous post by @jared that oversizing can reduce THD. my genrators barrel is stamped 166 amp idk the particulars but i can research the model as its an older generac

2. if i purchase a smaller generator to use and its THD is high can i use a device i found that reduces THD?

3. would it be better to use a generator that supplies no more than 125 or should i oversize and if so how much

4. im confused as to why because looking at the wiring diagram besides the two relays it appears the generator power uses the same circuit as the grid at 200 amps.

5. is a genrator wired in the best solution or would the battery charge inverter type product be more elegant?

as of now im going to keep the big generac as a failsafe super double back up plan as it is been a great generator except for the large propane fuel consumption of that V6 engine. it came with the home btw.

i apologize if this should have been in the support board i figured since i didnt have a specific problem yet because i hadnt installed a generator yet, it belonged here.

thanks in advance. any help is appreciated. Grin

1 - It is my understanding that there is no limit on the output from the generator.  The system should only draw what the system can (just make sure that there is a breaker between the Gen and the system that is rated for your system - the one in the gridboss/flexboss).  My understanding of the reasoning behind the 1.5X is to reduce THD.  THD increases as the generator get closer to full loading.  I would suggest you try to research what your Gen's rated THD is.  My 14K Kohler is rated at <5%THD according to the manual.  Since I never run it more that 50% load I think I am fine.  The folks at SS said I should be fine at those loads.

2 - Curious as to what you may have found to reduce THD??  I would still recommend that if you are looking at getting a smaller gen that you still abide by the 1.5 rule

3-5 I am not overly familiar with the Grid and Flex Boss so I can't offer opinion on those.  Perhaps another member will have some input.

Good luck,

JB
