question: with a EG4 12000 XP and big battery bank, 12kw a/c output is the maximum. However, if panels are destroyed in a storm & batteries are dead, will only 12kw come through my EG4 FROM THE GRID, or more than 12kw power? Also, if everything is working fine. Will the 12kw maximize output be supplementaed with more grid power ? So.... to summarize, does grid power backup and/or supplement the EG4 A/C 12kw output power?

According to the specifications, the inverter can pass through 100A from the grid, or 24kW.
According to this illustration from the product manual page 34, in normal operation the unit will do what you want - supplement its output with grid power above its 12 kW inverter limit:
Note this illustration does not say that the inverter can supplement its loads output with greater than 12 kW.
@jlankford Thank you for your response!!! I was a little confused about "pass thru" from the grid! As long as the grid is UP, then I can get all the power needed to my 200 Amp service panel. The grid power will be in phase with the inverter power output so that the combined POWER FACTOR is optimal (there is no inefficiency between the two power streams) I am not an expert and have not yet installed a Solar System on my house!
