December 2024 off grid set up: solar not yet hooked up.
currently using Honda eu7000i to EG4 6000 charging 8 @6v Kedron lead acid batteries. Constant draw of about 230watts or less.
in initial set up, SETTING #11 was at 15% SOC and a full battery charge by generator only took about 6-7hours and batteries lasted for about 26-30hours.
our electrician was concerned about lead acid batteries discharging less than 50% and changed the SOC TO 50% a week ago and now batteries take only about 1.5hours to reach full charge but run out by about 5 hours.
solar hook up not yet complete, is this charge and run time normal, or can it be improved by changing settings?
DOD shouldn't be any lower than 50% and I'd recommend 60% for longevity of the battery. The reason it lasted longer prior to setting it to 50% is before you were discharging to 15% and is dangerously close to damaging the batteries
Thanks! We have kept the setting at 50% as the EG4 won’t accept setting of 60%
we’ll hope that the addition of the panels gets us longer run times for those batteries
