Here is a strange one:

The graph for a day:

image

Notice the smooth battery discharge before the solar input (smooth and fairly constant) vs after the solar input (heartbeat looking).

So, here is what happens, Whenever the generator charges the battery, the battery discharge smooths out.  Then after a solar input cycle, the battery discharge gets this heartbeat (most times).  The fluctuation is not much, averages about 19 watts.

Also, if you look at the consumption line it stays relatively constant so to me this indicates some form of self-consumption (almost looks like fans cycling up and down).  Firmware for inverter and battery are updated to latest versions.

I understand the solar is undersized (we are working on that), but why the change after a solar cycle?

The question is what might be causing this, do the fans start cycling during the solar cycle and then get "stuck" in some kind of loop that doesn't allow them to settle back down?

This is at a neighbor's place, so I don't have ready access, but any suggestions would be welcome.

A little background - 1-6000xp, 1-indoor Wall mount battery. Currently 6-350'ish watt panels.  Weekender for the most part.  The heartbeat occurs when they are not around.  When they are around, it seems the heartbeat gets lost in the normal daily loads.

It is not that this is a huge load or anything, it is just very disconcerting to see.

Thanks,

JB

Are you concerned about the load the inverter itself is using? If yes, I have noticed the internal fans on my EG4 3000's to seem to cause battery percent of charge to drop even with all output 120/240 loads off. I suppose there is no way around the electrical consumption an inverter uses. Yes, my fans do slow once full charge and no loads occurs.

@frugal-farmer

I can understand self-consumption by the inverter but what is tripping me up is why does it start cycling up and down only after a solar cycle and not all the time?

In the image above you can see that after a generator cycle the battery discharge is relatively smooth, but after a solar cycle the battery discharge become cyclic instead of smooth.
