In what increments (Half amp, amps, every 5 amps, 10 amps etc) is the EG4 Solar Charge Controller MPT 500VDC 100A / MPPT100-48 HV adjustable?

History:

My system is functional but weird. I started with 300 free used Schott 235 Watt solar panels and I've been selling them to help fund the rest of the system. My utility company launched a pilot program for a generator input (they provided at no cost) that is a load side generator input (30 amp/ 240 volt) that prevents back feeding to the grid, and is mounted between the meter and my panel.

I found an EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra at Costco with an 18kw battery pack on sale. After installing 12 solar panels on the slope behind my house - I spent maybe 15 minutes unboxing and plugging everything in.  The L14-30 plug connects to the inverter / battery module and goes right into the utility provided generator input.

The EcoFlow has two solar inputs, high and low voltage, both with the same 15 amp limits. As paneled (12 panels) using Voc I am below the limit. If I run 2 strings of 10 panels in parallel, I will exceed the amp limitations slightly.  I've read some forum comments stating Amps are pulled and Volts are pushed - so the Voltage is a hard limit and there is wiggle room.... so I checked with Ecoflow and they advised that nothing goes over limit.

Application:

Sooo... If I buy the EG4 Solar Charge Controller MPT 500VDC 100A / MPPT100-48 HV, can I use this between my solar panels and my EcoFlow, limiting the output Amperage to match my limits?  Can I also maintain the corresponding voltage or does it all get throttled down to 48 v on the way out?

Thank you.

Reading through the manual (USER’S MANUAL) for the EG4 MPPT it appears that the voltage output maximizes at 62V so technically you might be able to use it on the low voltage input, but you would be far from maximizing your solar.

Does the Delta Pro allow you to use both inputs at the same time? One large series array for the high voltage and a smaller series array for the low voltage?

Could you provide a pic or a link for the spec plate on the solar panels?

Thank you.  Yes - I can use both at the same time. To date  I've had my system up for 2 months but am only using the high voltage right now.

That is a bummer about the max voltage - as I was getting to the end of my question I realized I hadn't researched the voltage but was reading the specs for amperage limits.

Looking at the specs, you may want to look at a solar string calculator, one that adjusts for temp.  I don't know how cold it gets at your place, but temp can seriously affect volts and amps.

It does look like you could put a small string on the low voltage side as well.

It is a bummer that the ECO Flow does not allow for over amperage.  Many (not all) MPPTs allow for some range of clipping.  They handle it differently, but they at least allow some.  You are soooo close to being able to 2P that system that it makes you want to cry.

🙁

Best of luck, if can think of anything I will let you know.

JB,

Thanks - average December low is 47 degrees but I should verify just in case at a solar string calculator.

I will be doing a small string on the low side, but wanted to see if I could also  2P that system so I would locate a spot for that accordingly.

And yes. SO close. I've been digging through a bunch of different products and had a moment of hope here.

Thanks again.
