I have the 18kpv inverter, a 14.3kWh EG4 battery, and 5,600-Watts of panels.

I am trying to setup the Weather Optimize feature, which I read through the manual, but am confused as to why it is doing what it is doing.

I first added the device in the Weather Optimize tab and I left all default values to start off, except the end time, which I changed from 4am to 6am.

The “Clear Sky” was set to the default value of “30” to run from 12:30am to 6am.

I assumed the battery would charge during those hours when the forecast of a Clear Sky if the battery went below 30%.

The next morning the EG4 Monitor shows the weather optimize was a “Success” with a charge of 25%??

The data shows that from 12:30am the system went to “Standby” with the battery at 70% SOC and changed to “Battery Grid on” just after 6am.  The house just ran off the grid from 12:30am to 4am, instead of the running off the battery.

The next day I changed the “30” value for Clear Sky to “0” figuring I don’t want it to do anything when forecast for clear sky.  The Set Result was “Failed”, however it did the same thing as the previous night with going to “Standby” the whole time with battery above 70% SOC and ran the house from the grid instead of the battery.

I search the internet and the forum here but came up empty handed.  Has anybody got this Weather Optimize to work that can provide some feedback?

Update:

I had disabled the Weather Optimize yesterday and even though there was no log that it ran, the inverter again switched to power the house from the grid from the start time to the end time listed in the Weather Optimize fields instead of continuing with using the battery.

I now changed the end time to match the start time hoping that it doesn't run.

NOTE: In the original post I state, “The house just ran off the grid from 12:30am to 4am, instead of the running off the battery", that should read 6am, not 4am.

I am on firmware fAAB-2122.

I discovered in the Maintenance tab, under Working Mode Settings, I had to change the settings there to put the system back to 24hr Self Consumption Mode.  At least figured out how to put the scheduling back as disabling Weather Optimize doesn't.

Make sure you have Battery Backup Mode disabled and that you don't have PV Charge Priority set to a time that will cause the grid to take over the loads.

I could also help look over your settings.

Eric,

Thanks for the reply.

Both Battery Backup Mode and PV Charge Priority are currently disabled in the Maintenance Tab / Working Mode Setting.  However, the Battery Backup Mode was enabled with the time that matched the Weather Optimize setting.  I assumed the enabling of the Weather Optimize feature is what had enabled the Battery Backup Mode and added the time in there as once I disabled the Weather Optimize setting, the grid continued to take over, but did not do prior.  Maybe it was previously enabled and enabling the Weather Optimize feature only added the time??

However, I now enabled the Weather Optimize feature again and verified it did not alter the Battery Backup Mode.  I changed the time from 5:00 - 5:30 to see how it goes.

With Weather Optimize enabled, and verified the Battery Backup Mode and PV Charge Priority were both disabled, the inverter again switched from the battery to the grid during the start and end time entered in Weather Optimize (5:00 – 5:30) with the battery SOC at 50%.

The message did come through as “Success” the night before stating the “Weather next day” would be “Clear Sky” with the “Charge percent” of “25%”, which Clear Sky in Weather Optimize was set to “25”.
