I purchased an EG4 600oPX for my father that lives in Ecuador ( South america) , they a sever problem of outages. The inverter is not installed jet but he also has an old no brand generator. I have no information about the generator except some pictures and i have not been able to fing any records. No information about the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of the generator.
Is it possible to damage the inverted if it is connected to a generator to charge batteries where the THD is potentially greater than 5%? if not, is there any risk to the inverter to use a generator to power the batteries?
thanks
I know i can use one but not an option this time that is why my question.
If the generator's total harmonic distortion exceeds 5%, there’s a risk of damaging sensitive electronics and failing to charge the batteries using generator power. To mitigate this, you could try derating the generator to keep the load below half its rated output, which helps minimize THD. Additionally, enable GEN Boost on the inverter, allowing battery and PV power to assist with generator loads when the demand exceeds the generator's adjusted wattage limit.
