Tech Support folks: I have been looking for some way to control and monitor my GridBOSS unit using RS-485 port. EG4 did a great job by documenting similar protocol for 18kpv. Can I please get access to the modbus protocol documentation for GridBOSS at this time? I requested the documentation from SignatureSolar, but they deferred to you.
+1 bump!
I don’t believe this is currently available to customers. However, I’ll look into it and let you know if or when it becomes available.
+1 bump!
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
I am also looking for this information so that I can access data from both my 18kPV and my GridBOSS.
@eg4eric Unfortunately the Internet security practiced by EG4 is insufficient (no MFA among other things) so I can't leave the dongle connected. This means I can't adjust it or monitor it over the seasons. Is there any opportunity to get this info via an NDA?
This is also something I'm looking for. I especially want to be able to monitor the power readings from the various CTs in the gridboss.
@mbbush
Our team has been notified about this, and it’s something that is already being reviewed internally. At this time, it's not yet available to the public, but we’ll be sure to share updates as soon as they become available.
@eg4eric may I inquire why is there secrecy around the product documentation? What exactly is EG4 concerned about? There has to be a legitimate concern regarding the device. Is there some sort of safety issue with device which would get exposed by documentation? If that's not the case, EG4 might be feeding unfounded conspiracy theories for no reason. What does EG4 stand to lose by giving the public documentation to the product
EG4c,
Since I don't work for EG4 and have no skin in the game, I'll hazard a reason. But first, some background: I'm a retired in-house systems integrator for a larger paper company. Our company, in regards to controls had a staff of 10+ electrical engineers and around 90 electricians. I ran the show. I'm long retired so I don't know shit, I guess. While this may not map over to a small unit like EG4 - Flexboss-Gridboss, many of the concerns are universal and involve system stability, security, and life safety. We protected access to the low level inter-communication between controllers- like NEVER allowed it. Usually these were near "real-time" communications where interruptions or faulty messages could crash the control strategy. Most all of the systems, therefore provided a separate network on a separate board for an interface using Modbus, CanBus, or numerous other protocols or networks for HMI stations and data export. The separate board or port had behind it software that only presented a limited number of writable registers but usually nearly everything for reading. So, no you should not mess with the private RS-485 network. Wait for a sanctioned, separate device or communications port. I'd vote for Modbus-TCP/IP because all the UL-listed industrial control devices (like Programmable Logic Controllers - PLCs) can deal with that. https://scadaprotocols.com/modbus-tcp-ip-complete-guide/
