Hi,

My name is George Q. I am an experienced electronic hardware systems engineer but new to solar and know nothing about solar inverters inverters and their setups.

I just purchased a re-furbished  EG4-3000EHV-48 , I think it's a V1. A paper in the box said it was refurbished and FW updated last Aug 2025. I was going to purchase new but balked after the recent price increase.

I configured the unit with an Eco-Worthy 51.2V server rack battery and without solar input; plan to use it in a Time Of Use ( TOU) configuration where batteries charge at night when electricity is cheaper in my area.

After selecting "LI 2" under setting 5. my unit communicates with and charges an Eco-Worthy 48V server battery (really a 51.2V ) to 100% from AC but will not invert from the battery.  It will invert only if I select "user" in settings 5. but again , will  only charge if set to "LI 2" under setting 5. I did not see a choice for "LI 5".

A USB to RS485 cable came with the unit and I plugged it to the RS485 port of the Eco-Worthy battery.  With the section 5 setting in "LI 2" If I disconnect it, the LCD display throws an error 19 and it goes away after I plug it back in. No error in "user mode" but I think it' s not looking then.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

George Q.

Does your server rack battery have different protocols you can set? If so, you can try to set to one of the following in the image.
Also, what do you have set for settings #"s 1, 2, 3, 43, 44, 45.

If this does not work, your best choice would be to set the inverter's battery type setting #5 to USER mode. I can help you set this up if needed.

H Eric,

Thank you again for the help!

I tried different protocols and it seems that only open loop works when only the battery is connected. Battery charges okay and never an "error 19" when Li 2 is selected. Just no AC out unless in open loop.

In case it matters, the USB to RS485 cable that came with the unit is labeled 1,2

These are my settings:

1.  SUB, tried SBU,  and all others

2. 80A

3. APL and tried UPS

43. 20%

44. 80%

45. 5%

What are your recommended settings for USEER mode?

I'll also check the FW on both my 3000 v1 and Eco-worthy server rack battery.

Thanks again,

George Q.

For user-defined, it really depends on your battery's recommended configurations. Normally for EG4 batteries, the settings would be:

  • #26 (Bulk charge)- 56.2V
  • #27 (Float charge)- 54.0V
  • #29 (Low DC cut off)- 47V

Again, this would depend on your batteries and what is recommended for those batteries.
