I have a solar system based on the EG4 6.5kW Off-Grid Inverter | 6500EX-48. At present, the system incorporates three EG4-LifePower4V1 batteries. I want to increase the storage, but the EG4-LifePower4V1 batteries have been discontinued in favor of the EG4-LifePower4 V2.

Inverter

(1) V2 batteries appear to be compatible with the 6500EX-48 inverter, but the 6500EX-48 is listed on EG4’s website as a “legacy product” for which no documentation is provided. Please confirm that V2 batteries are compatible with the 6500EX-48 inverter.

(2) Does the 6500EX-48 require a firmware update? If so, please confirm that this is the correct download: 6500EX 48 – FIRMWARE

Batteries

(3) The Connections Overview and Paralleling Guide indicates that original LifePower4 and new LifePower4V2 batteries can be paralleled. Please confirm that original and V2 batteries can be paralleled in the same system.

(4) Please confirm that, if original and V2 batteries are paralleled, a V2 battery must be the “host” or “master” battery.

(5) Please confirm that the original battery interconnect cables (RS485 Battery Communication Cable | SKU:1503006) will still work with the mix of original and V2 batteries.

(6) The Paralleling Guide indicates that original batteries require a firmware update to be paralleled with V2 batteries, but the EG4 website does not appear to have a download available. Please advise where the update software may be found.

The Lifepower4 V2 battery is compatible with the 6500EX inverter. However, if the battery does not come with firmware version Z02T04, a firmware update may be required. This version resolves a known issue with legacy communication between the V2 and the 6000EX.

The Lifepower4 V1 and V2 batteries can be connected in parallel within the same bank, but it’s important to set the V2 as the master battery. When connecting the RS485 cable between the V2 and V1, only pins 7 and 8 need to be connected to prevent triggering rapid shutdown on the V2 batteries. Ensure that the Lifepower4 V1 is running firmware version v3.40, which can be found here:
