Hi. I have 2 x 18kPV in a primary/subordinate arrangement. The display randomly shows a connection to the Grid at times although the Grid volts and frequency is displayed. Being Grid tied it was expected to be connected ALL the time with a small amount of power being sent to the Grid (Zero export).
Can you identify under what conditions the grid would be disconnected.
Do you have Off-Grid mode Enabled or Disabled?
It is connected to the grid. That is why you are seeing voltage and frequency. It’s just not using the grid in your picture.
if you lose the grid the picture will change from your consumption going to the house to standby/eps. The grid would also show no voltage and frequency.
I was explaining your picture. There will only be a line there is you are importing or exporting power to the grid. As you can see in your picture it is 0W. Hence no line. But the voltage and frequency will always display there if the grid is up. Grid tied doesn’t mean you are always exporting to the grid. Grid tied means that the system will draw any shortfall of load power from the grid if needed, and you also have the option of exporting power to the grid if you have an agreement with the util company to do that. Zero export also means it should never be exporting any power to the grid.
yes it doesn’t seem to matter what settings you have other than offgrid enabled to prevent you from importing power from the grid at random times no matter what the loads on your system are doing. I have that same issue.
@ezpz Noted and thank you for the input. I am attaching the system configuration settings for reference. From my observation, it appears that the connection to the GRID activates when there is a significant load or production swing where the inverter's power level cannot keep up with the power swing. Due to customer requests, my post was to get clarity from EG4 gurus on the observation(this is not mentioned in the manual).
Those settings look fine.
And yes sometimes the inverter uses the grid if there are big power swings. It might import power from the grid or even export a little to the grid before the inverter “catches” up. The only way to avoid that is to enable offgrid mode or physically switch off the main grid breaker, but that risks things not starting in the house or at least struggling to start with huge loads.
@sylinx
As mentioned by EZPZ, the inverter will draw power from the grid at times when needed. However, the only way to completely avoid using the grid is to enable Off-Grid Mode. As long as the Grid is connected to the inverter, it will always detect the voltage and frequency.
