Hi folks,

I have a question about how the BMS on the EG4 LL V2 handles when the battery is nearly fully discharged. I read through the User Manual but didn't find this information.

I have a solar setup for an off-grid cabin with 2x 160W solar panels, a Renogy 60A charge controller, Renogy 2000W inverter, and the EG4 LL 12V 400AH battery. The system powers a small refrigerator that consumes about 75W when running and which runs over the summer months approximately 10 hours per day. We visit the cabin on the weekends, so the system is running most of the time without humans around.

I'm looking to ensure that if we get a long series of really cloudy days or if something trips on the solar panel input side that the BMS on the EG4 will protect the battery from over discharge. I can't find any documentation that tells me if the BMS can prevent over discharge by disconnecting the battery from the inverter and the rest of the system or not.

Can anyone from EG4 or the community provide me with the answer?

Thanks!

The BMS manages the charging and discharging of the battery; However, you must set the inverter to stop discharging the battery at a specific voltage to prevent it from becoming over-depleted. If the battery voltage drops to 9.6V, it will enter protection mode. In that case, you’ll need to charge it using a very low amperage until the voltage reaches 12V, at which point the battery will recover and function normally.
