So, needing a 240volt inverter generator and looking for one in range of 6000W to 8000W with two wire start, very hard to find, seems like the ATS is always the option not available on them in this wattage range. Found a genmax with all the bells and whistles including the two wire start function but noticed THD rating is 5% not teh 3% i was hoping for . Curius if anyone out there has used the Genmax with eg4 inveters or opnions on if the 5% THD will be and issue. Think i was told or it was suggested shoot for a 3% THD gen. any help is appreciated.
I use the EG4 ChargVerter which solves many issues.
You should still be able to use that generator. It is recommended to use one with a capacity of at least 10kW to ensure sufficient power for both charging batteries and powering the loads. However, if the generator is solely for charging batteries, you can lower the wattage and current to minimize the risk of issues related to Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
For generators that do not meet the THD requirements, the Chargeverter is the best solution.
@eric When reading specs for generators, sometime finding THD can be a challenge (at least for me). And when I am able to find it is often stated something like:
"Total harmonic distortion (THD) from no load to full load with
a linear load is less than 5%."
Would you be able to explain how that relates to the <3% THD for the 6000XP?
for example, is THD a linear function? So, with the above example would running the gen at 50% give a THD of 2.5%?
Thanks,
JB
Sometimes the easiest solution is the best solution.
Sometimes not.
Typically, yes, the less power you use from the generator, the less the THD the generator outputs.
