Hello,

am trying to wrap my head around this, my end goal is to have about 15-20kw of solar input for my 12000xp in series.
in the document it mentioned

  1. NUMBER OF MPPTS 2
  2. MAX. USABLE INPUT CURRENT 35A/35A
  3. DC INPUT VOLTAGE RANGE 100 – 480VDC

am interested on ordering few panels, i already purchased the inverter and 2 powerwall battery, the solar panels am interested on have the following specs . more info on  https://signaturesolar.com/philadelphia-solar-400w-bifacial-solar-panel-ps-m108-hcbf-400w/

  1. Wattage:400W
  2. VOC:37.15V
  3. ISC:13.55A

so base on my image, my assumptions are:

image

  • 1 and 2 is one MPPT, 3 and 4 is one MPPT. which total to 2MPPTs with a total of 4 string, correct?
  • each of the MPPT can have up to 35A of solar input, correct?
  • so the 480VDC total, does it meant that, each of the 4 string can have a maximum of 480vdc of solar input?

if my above assumption is correct then,i should be able to get around 16kw based on below.

MPPT 1

  • string 1 can have : 10 panels which will give me around 4000W @371.5vdc @13.55A
  • string 2 can have : 10 panels which will give me around 4000W @371.5vdc @13.55A

MPPT 2

  • string 3 can have : 10 panels which will give me around 4000W @371.5vdc @13.55A
  • string 4 can have : 10 panels which will give me around 4000W @371.5vdc @13.55A

Thanks in advanced for all your answers.

This would be correct. However, feel free to use the string size calculator shared by Joel.

@jared Are 1-2, 3-4 tied together respectively?

@chrisneibauer the 12000XP has two MPPTs and each MPPT has two inputs allowing you to parallel strings at the MPPT.

I would suggest you run the number through the EG4 string calculator at:

SolarPanelApp

It will tell you if your proposed array works and how it should be hooked up.

Thanks,

JB

Hello, ..I know this thread is a year old but I'm curious if you ever connected your solar panels in the way you asked? What you asked is what I have been trying to figure out also.  The internet is really vague when it comes to this, especially if you can connect 4 strings that don't exceed the 480v into each of the inputs. I finally figured out that each mppt has a 480v limit but you asked if each input (which is a total of 4) can have up to 480v. Hopefully my questions make sense.

Anyway,  I'm just looking for some clarification.  Thanks

There are only 2 MPPT's, one in the red and one in the yellow. Each MPPT has 4 inputs so you can parallel strings to bring in more Solar power without using a combiner box. Each MPPT can handle up to 44A but only utilizes 35A and can handle up to 500V but only utilizes up to 480V.

@eg4eric Hi, I understand everything that you mentioned but doesn't that contradict what is said above about "each string" can handle up to 480v? My understanding is that each mppt can handle up to 480v (which is what I have now)...not each input. Not trying to be difficult, I just want a clear understanding. Thanks.

If a combiner box is used on the roof, so that fewer wires and smaller conduit can be used in the home run from the roof to the inverter, should you just use 2 of the 4 inputs for each MPPT. Should you leave the other 2 inputs unused for each MPPT?
