  • I have electrical panel that has the meter directly attached.  The CT's included are to big, what other CT's options are available

Sorry, I don’t think there is a way to connect CTs when there is a busbar between meter and panel.

essentially no wires to measure incoming current from Grid. Do you/will you have Permission to send power back to the Grid?

@powerup I currently have a grid tie inverter, so yes I can sell power back.  I have used emporias ct's in the past on the busbar connection

They are a bit tricky to install but they work, and

they require external power.  They may also work in the case, but they do not have a rj45 connection and I don't have the specs

@swiftsail Thank you, can you describe the integration?

Did you make your own RJ45 connection? Did you need to adjust Inverter settings for this to function?

Thank you,

@powerup That's great info to know those will work! marking this in case there's any answer to @powerUp Qs

@nathanael47 I did not receive any details on how to get R-Coils to integrate with EG4. My impression is that the implementation is CT's. The site I needed it for has PTO for sell-back, so we are just operating the unit based on Time-Of-Day and not offsetting actual utilization.

@powerup That makes sense. The EG4 inverter let's you set time of day and do sell back without the CTs?

I got some feedback from EG4 support. Their preference in this situation is for us to install a meter collar (aka feeder tap) and make the interconnection with the solar system there.

When I asked again about flexible CTs I got this:

"In response to your inquiry, both the installer and the client can indeed choose to bypass the Feeder Tap and utilize the Flexible CTs as you mentioned. However, please note that we only supply the standard clamp CTs with the 12kPV system.

To implement the flexible CT setup, you will need the following components:

Please note that the Rogowski Coil is supplied with only one coil. You can configure this single coil in a figure-eight arrangement, designating one side as L1 and the other as L2. While some of our customers have successfully utilized this setup, we still recommend using the Feeder box as outlined in our wiring diagrams for optimal performance."

So, if that works other flexible CTs should if you match the output...

I'd also asked about the possibility of moving the CTs downstream of breakers and running loads (and inverter output) in parallel through cts - divided by phase. I have done this successfully on Enphase systems (you have to be careful about keeping phases divided and you need the room where you can bundle all the loads by phase and get a CT around them) but haven't tried it with EG4.
