I purchased the EG4 12kPV hybrid inverter a year ago as I began building a DIY solar system around 8 Eco-Worthy solar trackers. Since the trackers are on a steep slope, most of the effort has gone into what I think of as infrastructure (see accompanying picture). I am now wrapping up the overall project and need help bringing the inverter online and getting approval for grid connection with Seattle City Light.

When I first got my inverter through Signature Solar, I called tech support a couple of times and got answers I needed. Now that I am ready to activate/commission it, I have been unable to get tech support to answer for two weeks with daily calls and call-back requests. Very disappointing.

Two immediate questions that I hope someone will answer for me:

  • Almost a year ago, I was able to get my wi-fi dongle, screen on front of inverter, and monitoring web page set-up. Now, I get no response at all from the dongle or screen. The app and web page are still active.  How do I get the dongle working again?

  • A year ago, I was trying to monitor one tracker (6 panels - 1200 max watts) and was told by EG4 tech support that I needed to have a load, grid or battery connection to produce current at the inverter. At that time I stopped trying to get the inverter working. What do I need to do now to make the inverter ready to connect to the grid? I have completed wiring on 4 of the 8 trackers and connected them to 2 of the EG4 PV inputs.

Does the dongle have all 3 lights on? If not, can you please let me know which ones are on or blinking?

Can you elaborate more on your question "What do I need to do now to make the inverter ready to connect to the grid?". Are you referring to wiring?

I just want to make sure I give you the right answer.
