I recently bought two 12000xp for a client... I powered one intended to be the master up in the shop to pre-configure parameters no problem, and proceeded with my install....

Installed both inverters and batteries at the site today, hooked up batteries to the "slave" to configure, flipped the battery breaker.... and got NUTHIN. the unit display did not power up, no clicks, no display, no indication of power "on". There is 52.7 volts at the Batt breaker with batteries 1/2 full, but zero response from the slave unit.

Is there something I can check or reset under the safety cover? Hopefully this is not a common thing with the 12000xp ?!

Or.... do I pull it off the wall, get an RMA, and ship to EG4 for a replacement? This is REALLY aggravating, costs me time/money to un-install/re-install, and the client job is "on hold" until I get this sorted out. I am really upset.

Do you have PV that you can connect or Grid you can connect to see if the inverter turns on?

@eg4eric there is no Grid at this site, and no generator yet. I do have the PV available, but I thought the batteries had to be connected first to power up the inverter ?

Is there an internal pre-charge resistor in the 12000xp to handle the inrush current for the initial connection/charge of the capacitors? Are the 12000s prone to shorting out like this ? Is there a field repairable internal fuse or part, or do I need to pull this beast off the wall and return it for replacement ?!

You can operate the inverter without battery.

If the system isn't turned on properly with the battery, it can be damaged. I'll attach the link of the startup and shut down process.

If the inverter turns on with the PV, that will indicate that the battery terminals on the inverter are damaged.

I will check for battery terminal input failure later today.

If something internal has shorted.... what is the fix, and can it be done in the field, or does it require an RMA remove, repair, replace?

It would require an RMA and have it replaced.

@eg4eric , I went to the site today and did a little testing. Here are the results:

- turned on PV input, unit remained dead

- turned "power on" with PV on, unit remained dead

- pulled battery input cables, batteries are supplying 52.7v

- tested inverter battery terminals resistance... OL ohms, so no short at inverter Batt input pos/neg

.... this inverter is dead as a doornail, and I think it was delivered DOA.

------------

I moved battery cables, and used an external precharge resistor when landing the (30kWhr total - open loop) battery + cable. I also moved the PV to the second inverter (which I had intended to parallel but will have to run single until I get the dead inverter replaced), and the Unit fired right up and is behaving normally.

-------------

How to I initiate an RMA ? With Seller, or with EG4 support ? I recycled the box about a week ago, so I do not have original packing material... will I be able to get a new one, and send the dead inverter back in the new box ?

I am really not happy about this. It will cost me hours to remove/replace that I really can't charge my client, and delay his project completion by ?? weeks ?? to ship back and forth.

Who at EG4 can I contact to expedite a replacement ?
