Hi,

I'm working with a solar installer and our county solar proposal permitting office. I was told that in order to install the Wallmount indoor 280ah batteries in our attached, finished garage with no venting, I would need to have a manufacturer document stating that the batteries do not emit any gases (flammable gasses) during normal operation.  The reason for this ask is because the permitting office has a lasting concern about old lead-acid batteries emitting hydrogen during normal charging cycle.  I did state these use LiFePo4 chemistry.  Rather than try and push the rock up the hill, I'd rather provide the documentation, secure approval and be on my way.

Does EG4 have this type of document?
Is there someone from EG4 who can provide this or direct me to something that would help me in this situation?
Thank you!

For anyone else looking for this document. EG4 sent me a document titled "EG4 280Ah AW & IN WM_Room Size Clarification". I tried to attach it here but PDFs are not permitted. But emailing [email protected] as Eric mentioned was easy enough to get a copy.

The text of the document is below:

RE: EG4 Electronics Battery Installations

The purpose of this document is to address the manufacturer’s recommended room

size for the EG4® WallMount All Weather Battery (MODEL #: WP-16/280-1AWLL, WM-

48-280-1-AW), and EG4® WallMount Indoor 280Ah Lithium Battery (MODEL #: WM-

48-280-1-IN-LL-00, WM-48|280-LL-00).

According to UL 9540A cell level testing on the EG4® WallMount All Weather Battery

and EG4® WallMount Indoor 280Ah Lithium Battery, the installation space must be at

least 79.66m3 if not ventilated. This ensures that, in the event of thermal runaway, the

concentration of flammable gas remains below 25 percent of the lower flammable

limit (LFL).

The room volume is determined by evaluating the gases that are released and the

number of battery cells that enter thermal runaway during testing. The installation

room size does not need to be increased when adding additional EG4® WallMount All

Weather Batteries, as testing under forced thermal runaway conditions demonstrated

that no propagation occurred between units. The minimum required installation

volume may be reduced if adequate ventilation is installed IAW code and jurisdictional

requirements.
