finally..... Here are the steps I had to use, after creating a unique email account for this site
download/install SmartESS App to phone
plug PowerPlug (PP) cord into rs-232 port, bottom of eg4-3000
stand close (within 5') of inverter/dongle, and
connect phone wifi to PP wifi "Q00xxxxxxxx"
Q00 wifi password is 12345678
open SmartESS app (still connected to QQ00wifi), do not "Register/login" to user account, instead
click "toolbox", then click and "wifi network", click on "Q00xxxxxxxx" to pair to PP
NEXT
dialog should open where you can
enter Home wifi SSID/password, and confirm
... the dongle now "knows" how to talk to the local Home wifi
exit SmartESS App
connect phone wifi to Home wifi
... next steps can be done remotely if you have the Q00xxxx
open App and "Register" new account, or Login *
* you can only have one account per physical site
click "+" to add device, then when BT scan fails,
click on the little green [-] in the upper right,
add SN "Q00xxxxxx" either by entering manually, or scan capture if you are local
.... and then you can select device, and begin monitoring
