I am wondering about the 6000XP RSD contacts.  In the manual it says that the needed RSD button should be a NC switch (pg 45 of manual version 1.5).

However, on pg. 46 of the same manual it implies that the RSD button should be NO stating that there is 12v output to the RSD power supply unless the SW contacts are shorted.  To me this would indicate that a BO switch is needed.

I am assuming that a NO switch is needed since the inverter is packaged (at least mine was) with the RSD function enabled but there was no jumper on the SW contacts.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Thank,

JB

Good morning, Joel!

Let me run out to our test bench and confirm this. Once I have the correct data, I will respond and have the Technical Writers update the manual accordingly.

And thank you for joining the Community Forum! Glad to have you here!

Ok, after we used the meter to test, I can confirm that it is in fact NO. For the inverter to operate normally, the RSD circuit needs to be in the open state. RSD will occur when you close the circuit.

Let me know if you can view this video.

@jarrett Thank you, I have been trying to get that confirmed for the past few weeks with my reseller without luck.

I was able to view the video just fine.

With that being said I would like to follow up with an additional question.

I have a Tigo CCA that I would like to operate through the Aux port when I press the RSD button.

Since the Tigo also needs an NO contactor, can you suggest where I might be able to purchase a 2-NO RSD button?

I understand that this is not essential to operations but here is what I have found.  Yes, the CCA stops sending the "keep alive" signal and my panels to shut down when the invert shuts down for RSD (removing the 12V from the RSD supply contacts).  However, when the CCA loses power, it does not send the RSD notification to the Tigo Monitoring.  But if I use an NO contactor through the Aux port on the Tigo, it will send notification that I can see remotely.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Thank you for such a fast response as well as the great video.

Sincerly,

JB

No problem!! Happy to help! Let me see what I can find on this. I typically recommend the method you mentioned, so I need to do a little digging to find out what would work best.

I did a little research, (and sorry for taking the weekend on this), and I found an RSD that has a NO and a NC. If I read this correctly, this should work for you!

IMO Emergency Stop Pull Button | 500VAC | 1NO + 1NC - Signature Solar

Jarrett,

Thank you for the information but, I guess I am a little confused.  If I need an NO contactor on the 6000xp side and a NO contactor on the Tigo side, I will need a 2-NO switch not an NO/NC switch.

Am I thinking correctly?

Thanks,

JB

My apologies Joel, I could not find an RSD that would work this way. I took some time to look yesterday and didn't find a 2-pole NO RSD button. I am still looking though and consulting one of my friends that does solar design, so bear with me!

Sounds great sir.  I really appreciate you checking into this.  I have been on the hunt for a 32 NO switch for a couple weeks so far.  The only solution I have found is to buy one of the IMO switches you mentioned and then buy a new NO contactor for it.  Just by the time I pay shipping they want more for the contactor than for the entire switch.

I was just hoping that You all might have an idea of where I might be able to buy one off the shelf and not have to build one.

Thanks again,

JB

You are correct... My apologies, I had it in my head you needed a NO AND NC, not a 2 pole NO. Give me just a sec.

@jarrett Just wondering if you have had any luck finding a 2-NO RSD button? I have been looking as well without much luck.

Thanks,

JB

No sir. I am reaching out to a few friends that do Solar Design, and one of them only landed back in the US this morning. Hopefully, they can point me in the right direction.

@jarrett

I went ahead and ordered an "IMO B4TU20 CONTACT BLOCK 2 NORMALLY OPEN FOR BG¦ ENCLOSURES".  Kind of a bummer that these appear to be so difficult to come by.  I will swap out the 1NC/1NO contactor with the new 2NO contactor and let you know how it works out.

If you do find a supplier that does sell 2NO RSD buttons, please let me know as I have some neighbors that are looking at implementing the same solution, but they are not too keen on the idea of having to buy an RSD button and replace the contactor in it for an addition cost.

Also, if you happen to find a source for a 2NO RSD, could I suggest a TSB and notification to your resellers that they might want to stock a few of them.

Regrettably I was under the impression from my reseller they the RSD they recommended would work.  I understand they were just referencing documentation and technically it does work so I can't throw them under the bus.  Smile But it did come as a surprise when things did not work as expected and until you helped out all I was getting from the reseller was that I was doing something wrong.

Big thanks for all your help.

I will keep you posted,

JB

I spoke with one of our master electricians today, and he told me that the best thing to do is to add an additional NO contactor to the RSD. Apparently, that is the best way to go about it. I had not heard that myself, but the need for two NO contacts had not arisen for me yet, so this was definitely a new thing to look into.

If I find any of them, I will be sure to post them here! I'll definitely tag you as well make a TSB for it. I know how useful it can be for people to have a database of necessary parts, supplies, etc.
