In an attempt to fix my Lifepower4 48V V1 batteries not communicating with my 18Kpv, I ordered the Automatic Updater. The description on the item page stated that the FW is V 3.37, but also stated that it is the latest stable FW version. Since FW V 3.40 has been available for about a year, it seemed reasonable to expect that the FW V would be at least that level. However, when I performed the update to one of my batts, it downgraded the FW from 3.40 to 3.37. Apparently, I should have believed the "3.37" and not the "latest firmware for the LifePower4 48V Version 1".
After contacting Signature Solar tech support, I was informed that the currently stable FW for LifePower4 48V V1 is indeed 3.40. In addition, was told that the automatic updater cannot, itself, be updated to the current FW. The tech told me I would have to us BMS Test to RE-update the battery that I had already "updated" to V3.37 to V3.40. Done.
This seems to fly in the face of what is stated on the Updater label: "This product can be upgraded multiple times and should not be discarded",
Based upon the info provided by the SS tech, and the experience of attempting to attach the Updater to both a Mac & PC, the SS tech may be right. When I attached the Updater to the Mac or PC, there was an obvious USB device recognition (tone), but no drive would appear in the list of devices.
So, what's the deal? What's the truth of the matter?
Frustrated.
I apologize for the confusion. The automatic updater is limited to firmware version V3.37 and cannot be updated or used with any other firmware.
