Just seeking a little clarification on how the working modes function with a generator.

Background

I have a new installation (Gridboss, Single Flexboss21, Single EG4 powerpro battery and an AC Coupled PV system).  I believe I have it setup to make full use of my utilities TOU program where I am AC Charge (trickle charging) the batteries overnight and then run Self Consumption for part of the day and force discharge at the end of the Peak TOU period to sellback all my stored power at the best rate and make sure I get my full recommended 80% discharge on the batteries.

Question

I tried to do a first test of my backup generator to recharge the batteries.  It happened to be while the system was in force discharging... and ended up calling EG4 (signature solar) because the generator would start but the gridboss would only switch to generator for a short time, 10 to 30 seconds and then switch back to inverter power.  They did a few things and updated the Flexboss / Gridboss firmware.  We did get it to work but after finishing up with tech support and getting the battery to charge, but I saw that they had changed my working mode to Self Consumption mode for the entire day.  So my question, when grid power is not present... does the Flexboss only charge the batteries reliably in certain modes?  I'm trying to figure out what is supposed to happen when the grid goes out in the various Working Modes.  Does the Flexboss know to switch itself over to charge the batteries when the scheduled mode is AC Charge or Force Discharge / Export PV Only mode and grid power goes out?

Thank you for the help!

Jordan

As long as the generator settings are configured with the correct start and stop SOC values, the FlexBoss will automatically switch to using the generator to charge the battery when grid is down.

Thanks Eric,

This matches my settings.  I have successfully switched on the generator throughout the day at different times to see how this will work for me.  It normally switches the generator on immediately when the grid breaker is shut off and battery is below the end charge SOC and charges until the end SOC is reached.

The only issue I am seeing is the AC Coupling and AC1 shut off immediately and do not turn back on until the grid is restored.  Before I enabled the generator charge and had my firmware was updated (Gridboss IAAB-1300 / FAAB-2122), AC Coupling stayed on and charged the batteries without the grid.  I would see why I may not want my microinverters running at the same time as the generator, but is it still possible to charge/utilize AC Coupling without the grid in this configuration?

Are you selling back to grid with AC couple?

Yes I have Grid Sellback enabled.  I am also using the weekly mode feature of my inverter, if this makes a difference but it is similar to the "working mode" settings in the attached screen shot.  Thanks!
