We’re planning a system that ties together

  • 15.99 kW Enphase IQ8+ array
  • Two EG4 14.3 kWh batteries
  • Whole-home generator
  • Either EG4 12000XP + GridBOSS (we already have a 12000XP in stock)
  • OR EG4 FlexBOSS + GridBOSS

Goals:

  • Enphase as primary daytime source
  • Charge EG4 batteries from excess PV
  • Keep grid export close to zero
  • Integrate generator for extended outages

Question: For this kind of setup, would you recommend sticking with the 12000XP + GridBOSS, or going with FlexBOSS + GridBOSS (or something else entirely)?

We’d love to hear from anyone who has installed similar systems — especially around Enphase re-sync in backup mode, generator wiring, and overall ease of install. Any advice, lessons learned, or recommendations would be awesome

The Gridboss is only compatible with Hybrid inverters. So, the 12000XP wouldn't work with the Gridboss. You would need a 18kPV, Flexboss21, Flexboss18 or 12kPV.  Everything else looks good.

I wouldn’t look at EG4 if you plan on using a generator, especially the 12000xp’s.  EG4 has an unusable generator switching protocol, it creates brown and black outs every time the generator starts and stops. The issue is very well documented on this site with EG4 involved in the diagnosing but no changes have been made, the issue affects all of their inverters, some worse than others.   12000xp is an excellent choice as long as you DO NOT depend on it for gen switching.
